Free Scrabble Score Calculator — Check Tile Values Instantly

WordForge's Scrabble Score Checker is a free online tool that calculates the tile value of any word for both standard Scrabble (TWL) and Words With Friends. Type a word and instantly see its total score, a visual breakdown of each letter's value, and whether the word exists in our dictionary. This is useful for Scrabble players verifying scores, Words With Friends players comparing strategies, and word game enthusiasts studying high-value words.

Toggle between Scrabble and WWF scoring using the buttons above the input. The scores differ because the two games use different tile value distributions. The tool also color-codes tiles by value: pink for Q/Z (10 points), orange for J/X (8 points), amber for K (5 points), and so on — making it easy to spot high-value letters at a glance.

Strategy: Maximizing Your Scrabble Score

  • Save high-value letters for bonus squares.Don't waste a Q on a regular square — wait for a Triple Letter or Double Word square.
  • Learn Q-without-U words. QI, QAT, QADIS, QAID, QOPH, FAQIR, BURQA, MBAQANGA — these let you play Q when you have no U.
  • Memorize 2-letter words. The 107 valid 2-letter words (AA, AE, AI, OE, QI, ZA, etc.) are essential for parallel plays.
  • Go for bingos. 7-letter words earn +50 points. Practice spotting them with common stems like SATINE, RETAIN, TISANE.
  • Don't hoard blanks. A blank is worth 0 points but enables bingos. Use it strategically, not just to get rid of bad letters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Scrabble tile values?

Standard Scrabble (TWL) tile values: A=1, B=3, C=3, D=2, E=1, F=4, G=2, H=4, I=1, J=8, K=5, L=1, M=3, N=1, O=1, P=3, Q=10, R=1, S=1, T=1, U=1, V=4, W=4, X=8, Y=4, Z=10. Blanks are worth 0. The highest-scoring single tiles are Q and Z (10 points each).

What are the Words With Friends tile values?

WWF uses different values: A=1, B=4, C=4, D=2, E=1, F=4, G=3, H=3, I=1, J=10, K=5, L=2, M=4, N=2, O=1, P=4, Q=10, R=1, S=1, T=1, U=2, V=5, W=4, X=8, Y=4, Z=10. Notable differences: B is 4 (vs 3 in Scrabble), C is 4 (vs 3), H is 3 (vs 4), M is 4 (vs 3), P is 4 (vs 3).

Does the Scrabble score include bonus squares?

No — this calculator shows the base tile value only. In actual Scrabble, bonus squares (Double Letter, Triple Letter, Double Word, Triple Word) multiply the score. For a real game, you'd need to add those bonuses manually based on where you placed the word on the board.

What's the highest-scoring Scrabble word?

The theoretical maximum is OXYPHENBUTAZONE for 1,778 points (achieved in 1982 by Karl Khoshnaw). Realistic high scores include MUZJIKS (29 base points), CAZIQUE (28), and JEEZ (20). With bonus squares, 7-letter bingos can score 100+ points easily.

How does the bingo bonus work?

In Scrabble, if you use all 7 tiles from your rack in one turn, you earn a 50-point bonus on top of the word's regular score. In Words With Friends, the bonus is 35 points. This is why finding 7-letter words (bingos) is so valuable — they can double or triple your score for that turn.
