Free Jumble Solver — Unjumble Letters for Daily Puzzles

WordForge's Jumble Solver is a free online tool for solving newspaper jumble puzzles and other word jumble games. Type the scrambled letters from today's puzzle into the search bar above, and the solver instantly returns every valid English word that can be formed from those letters — sorted by length so the intended answer is usually at the top.

The Jumble has been a daily newspaper staple since 1954, syndicated in over 600 newspapers worldwide. Each puzzle contains 4-5 scrambled words plus a final cartoon caption that uses circled letters from those words. This solver handles the first part — unscrambling the individual words. For the final phrase, combine the circled letters and use our Word Finder to brainstorm possible answers.

How to Solve a Jumble Puzzle

  1. Unscramble each word.Type the scrambled letters into the Jumble Solver. Look at the top results (sorted by length) — the longest word that matches the puzzle's theme is usually the answer.
  2. Note the circled letters. Each solved word has 1-2 letters circled in the original scrambled version. Write these down.
  3. Combine circled letters. You'll have 6-12 letters total. Rearrange them to form the final phrase that matches the cartoon caption.
  4. Use the Word Finder if stuck. If you can't spot the final phrase, use the Word Finder with Contains set to your circled letters and length matching the expected phrase length.

Jumble Solving Strategy

  • Look for common prefixes and suffixes. Jumble words often start with RE-, UN-, IN-, or end with -ING, -ED, -TION. Spot these first to anchor the word.
  • Identify vowels.English words need vowels. Count the vowels in your jumble — a 5-letter word with 3 vowels is likely a simple word like "audio" or "house".
  • Watch for double letters. If your jumble has two of the same letter (e.g., two S's), the answer probably uses both — look for words like "class", "pass", "less".
  • Consider the theme. The cartoon gives context. A baseball-themed cartoon probably has baseball words in the answer.
  • Try the longest words first. The solver sorts by length by default. The intended answer is usually the longest valid word, or the longest word that fits the theme.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a jumble puzzle?

Jumble is a daily word puzzle that appears in newspapers and online. Each puzzle has 4-5 scrambled words that you must unscramble, plus a final phrase or cartoon caption that uses circled letters from those words. It was created in 1954 and is syndicated in 600+ newspapers.

How is the Jumble Solver different from the Word Unscrambler?

Functionally, they're the same tool. The Jumble Solver is pre-configured for typical jumble puzzle inputs (4-7 letters, uppercase display, sorted by length). Both use the same sorted-key algorithm against the same 370,000+ word dictionary. Use whichever you prefer.

How do I solve the final jumble phrase?

After unscrambling the 4-5 base words, look at the circled letters (usually 1-2 per word). Combine those circled letters and try to form the final phrase — typically 6-10 letters. Use the Word Finder tool: set the length to the target phrase length and Contains to the circled letters.

Why are my jumbled letters returning so many results?

Most jumble words are 4-7 letters. A 5-letter jumble typically has 30-80 valid sub-anagrams. Look at the top of the results (sorted by length) — the longest words are usually the intended answer. Also consider the puzzle's theme: if the cartoon shows a baseball scene, look for baseball-related words.

Can the Jumble Solver help with Word Jumble Champion and Jumble Crosswords?

Yes. The solver works for any word jumble variant — daily newspaper Jumble, Jumble Crosswords (also called Jumble Word Roundup), Word Jumble Champion, and online jumble games. Just type the scrambled letters and browse the results.
